The best months to visit Oslo are July and August. Both for the climate, but also because in the other mild months, from May to June and September to October, Oslo is crowded with business men and women: in these periods, hotel prices are always quite high, and it is difficult to get discounts and special offers. In the summer months, instead, 4 and 5 star hotels in Oslo reduce prices even by 20-30%.
In general, the range of hotels in Oslo is not very wide: there are around a hundred accommodation facilities, of which about a half are 2 and 3 stars hotels: most are located in the city centre, along Karl Johans Gate, the main road, or the parallel Kristian IVs gate, both close to the magnificent Slottsparken.
Actually, we cannot say that in Oslo there are really cheap hotels: the average price for a double room with breakfast in a 3-star hotel is never less than 100 Euros per night (but comes even up to 250 Euros). The capital city of Norway is "very expensive": according to a study by the Swiss bank UBS, Oslo is the most expensive city in the world. A dinner in a restaurant does not cost less than 100 Euros a head, a ticket for public transport costs around 5 Euros, the same amount is required for a coffee at the bar.
