Those who visit Amsterdam, get hotels for all tastes, including those housed in the picturesque and typical eighteenth-century houses overlooking the canals. Many hotels, even budget hotels, have been made out in these buildings, properly restored, and now able to offer a charming and unusual accommodation. The limit of these accommodation is the breadth of rooms and obviously quite small common spaces.
The cheapest hotels are concentrated in the centre of Amsterdam, between Dam Square and Central Station. However, in this area, the prices aren’t the lowest of all: to save money and find the cheapest deals you can choose a hotel between the centre and Vondelpark, the green heart of Amsterdam.
Generally speaking, cheap hotel rates in Amsterdam are higher during the summer season, when it is recommended to book in advance: winter prices are on average lower and special offers most common. The average rate for a 2-star hotel is between 50 and 70 Euros. Commonly, breakfast is included when the price per night is above 70 Euros. Those who travel by car should also consider the possible cost of parking spaces.
One of the most amusing and characteristic ways to stay in Amsterdam is to rent a houseboat: a house lying on one of Amsterdam canals. The 'floating houses' are characteristic of the Dutch capital and offer all the comforts of a small apartment, as kitchen, small living room, 1 or 2 bedrooms and bathroom.
Choosing a houseboat is not easy. Some are really crumbling, while others are too sophisticated and therefore relatively expensive. Most houseboats are private houses, but there are houseboats for rent, and therefore equipped with all comforts.
The highest concentration of houseboats is found along the Singel canal, in the oldest part of the city; in Prinseneiland, north of the city centre, in Prinsengracht, in the Amstel and in Oude Schans areas, near the Koningsstraat, one of the shopping streets of Amsterdam.
The rate per night for a houseboat up to 4-6 people is on average 120 Euros. There are solutions for groups that can accommodate up to 9-14 people as well.
